Tired of default ringtones but don't want to pay $1 each on App Store? This guide shows how to make custom ringtones from any MP3 — 30s for iPhone (.m4r) or Android (.mp3). Browser-only, no app install.
Step 1: Get the MP3
- Already in phone (iTunes purchase).
- Extract from video you own.
- Pixabay CC0 royalty-free.
Step 2: Cut best 30 seconds
Open MP3 Cutter. Drag MP3 → drag green handles on waveform → click "30s ringtone" preset → set fade in 0.05s + out 0.1s → bitrate 192k → export.
Step 3: Set on iPhone
Method 1 (PC): rename .mp3 to .m4r, sync via iTunes/Finder. Method 2 (no PC): use GarageBand iOS — import MP3 → Share → Ringtone. Settings → Sounds → Ringtone.
Step 4: Set on Android
Settings → Sound → Phone ringtone → Add ringtone → pick MP3. Done.
Pro tips
- Cut to "hook" beat, not silent intro.
- Set different ringtones per contact group.
- Cut 3-5s for notification tone separately.
- Use CC0 music if you also use it in TikTok videos.
